Painting looks hopelessly passive compared to sound, video or interactive installation. I do not know what painting is good for and over the years I have known this with growing intensity. I have experienced endless moments of absolute boredom in front of beautiful pictures, both as their viever and their maker. This proved, however, to be the best evidence of their presence. It could well be solely my private obsession; yet I tend to believe that gazing at a painting is the religion of the next millenium.
